Healthcare Databases
You can search the healthcare databases for a vast range of clinical and health management information. You will find journal citations often with abstracts and in some cases full text articles.
Which databases can I access?
- AMED - Allied health and complimentary medicine.
- BNI - British Nursing Index, Nursing, midwifery, healthvisitors.
- CINAHL - Nursing and allied health.
- EMCARE - Nursing and allied health.
- EMBASE - Drugs and pharmacology, other aspects of medicine.
- HMIC - Information from the King's Fund and Department of Health.
- Medline - Largest database, medicine and nursing.
- PsycINFO - Psychology and allied fields.
- Social Policy and Practice
Do I need usernames and passwords? Yes, you will need an OpenAthens username and password. You can register here. If you register from an NHS net computer your account will be ready to use straight away, otherwise there may be a delay, while your account is checked.
Can I access them from my office / home? Yes, your OpenAthens password will work from any internet connection.
